The Secret Place Named Contemporary Fiction Finalist

What SUPER exciting good news . . .

The Secret Place is a Finalist in the Cascade Christian Writers contest, Published Contemporary Fiction category!
What a HUGE honor! This is such great news, and especially today, on the 1 year Anniversary of The Secret Place's release!
I'll share the list of finalists below, but I want to say congratulations to all the writers who've made it to this stage.
I also want to say a huge WAY to GO! to all those who took the plunge and entered. I was honored to be a prelim judge in another category and can see how hard my fellow authors are working to hone their craft and share the stories of their hearts. Writing ability is a God-given gift to be shared, not kept for oneself, and you are clearly pouring out your devotion and service to the Lord through writing. You're already a winner! Keep it up!
Finalists in each category will be narrowed down to one winner and will be announced at the Cascade Christian Writers Summer Conference Award Gala on June 25, 2022. Thank you to those who volunteer to judge this contest, and to OCW for your dedication to support and serve writers.
Good luck & 'blessed wishes' to all the finalists!

Christianity Today Highlights Wings Like a Dove

I found out this week that Wings Like a Dove is being featured in the upcoming issue of Christianity Today under New & Noteworthy Fiction, and rubs shoulders with the latest works from master novelists, Toni Shiloh and Amanda Dykes. What an honor!

I am so blessed to hear that this story resonates with readers and industry professionals. It is still my hope that one day, filmmakers can bring it to screen, as I believe its themes are as timely now as ever, and worthy of an ongoing conversation.

Here's the Christianity Today review of Wings Like a Dove:

“If you’re looking for a story that will resonate deep in your heart and stay with you for years, check out Wings Like a Dove. Set in New York and Indiana during the Great Depression, this tale of an immigrant girl desperate to protect life not only paints a rich picture of the era but also dives deep into what faith really means, demonstrating how we can change the world when we love as Christ loves us. A perfect example of how fiction can teach the most beautiful of God's truths. Suitable for group discussion.” -Christianity Today

ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF. . . .

RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME:

I've published five novels and 2 novellas (more about those on my website.) I've been writing all my life, but decided in 2007 to get serious about being published.

I love action movies and Jane Austen. (she’s dead, I know. I found that out when I tried to get her to endorse my novel)

They let me play Bass guitar and sing in a worship band.

I can produce 4 dozen homemade cinnamon rolls in a flash for a crowd of drooling young adults. Or publishing house editors.

I used to have a Harley. Now we have seven grandkiddos. Decent trade, really.

I am a proud Grammy. Don't even think about taking candy from my babies.

I hate shopping (Yes, I'm aware that I'm a girl)

MY ROOTS:
I've lived in Oregon all my life, spent time in Eugene (Go DUCKS!), Springfield, Reedsport, and Smith River. Which is not really a town, but a river, about 70 miles long, a tributary of the Umpqua River in southwest Oregon.

Although it's not a town, it is a community with a strong sense of pioneer history. It's cool to say you've lived there, especially if you lived there during the days when you had to take a boat to school. No joke! The old farmhouse my grandfather and my mother grew up in still stands, nestled into a narrow, pasture carpeted valley, complete with a swimmin' hole and its own 'crick'. It may turn up in one of my novels.

There's a rumor that my ancestors had a connection with the Mafia back in Sicily. I used to fantasize as a kid about a big black limo with tinted windows pulling up and whisking me away from school. Ahhh. So THAT'S why I'm having so much trouble conjugating my dangling participles now.

NOT RANDOM: I am challenged by the truth and amazed by the grace of God. And it's either in spite of or because of that grace that I hold a PhD in Learning Stuff the Hard Way.
